Taste of OSU

Halo. Last Friday, Taste of OSU- an event with cultural performances and foods from all over the world was held at the Ohio Union. Me and my girl- Chee Ling spent 9 tickets which cost $9 and enjoyed lots of food :) We were like food tester and aimed for the best food that we thought worth trying.

Me and Chee Ling with our tickets- Can't wait to eat!

Before all the foods that make me hungry. Check this out! I learnt some simple Arabic language !

We are taught to speak in arabic in order to have our name written. Cool right?

Upper Left- I get to know from my Muslim friend- My name written sound Yi mon instead of Yvonne. Hahaz. The person might heard me wrongly.

Ops >.< I can't really remember which countries are these foods from but no worries I still remember how they taste. Hehe.

A complete combo set of Somali food which cost only $2 - the cheapest food you can find at Taste of OSU.
They are super generous and the foods are not bad !

OK- we are rice lover . hahaz.
Far Left# Bread with mashed potato ( we will not choose that if we knew it was just mashed potatoes)
Left #  Flavorful , full with spices of  quinoa - a type of grains (small, crunchy)
Right # India Chili Prawns ( we expect it to be spicy turns out not spicy at all)
Far right # butter chicken. (It looks red and disappointing again - tastes like Prego sauce chicken)

Left#  Sour dough with pinato beans (guessing Ethiopian food)
Bottom Right # Baklava - the food that I love the most - Turkish desert sweet pastry sweetened  with syrup and nuts.
Up Right # rice with flavorful spices
Overall, it is fun and interesting to taste foods from different cultures. ^ ^
Not to forget, MASA has our own booth as well, we sold 1000 + tickets. Wohoo!!

Chicken Sate , Nasi lemak and sambal

Ondeh ondeh- Malaysian dessert with brown Malacca sugar inside and coconut flakes outside * sold out !

See the long line that quee for Malaysian food * so proud *

Tadaa !! Fellow Malaysians ! Spot me in baju kurung ^ ^

Dar love to collect stems so i will keep them for him~
Did you spot the name of the bird below the stem. - so informative~~

As the cop shows, the letter took 19 days from Butterworth, Penang to reach Columbus, Ohio. Besides, I received a Chinese New Year Card from my bestie- Pei Ling. So touched when I see her handwriting ~~~ The most 独一无二 handwriting. Thank you very very much and Gong Xi Fa Cai.

It is on my wall.. Yippy!  and spot "leng lui" ~~ Hahaz.

Harlem Shake (Toilet's Party)

Halo. Yesterday, my neighbor - Wace cooked delicious dinner for all of us. Aw~ I am so grateful to have this bunch of neighbors. We chit chat and out of no where we talk about Harlem Shake. Since some of us didn't know anything about it, so we watched a couple of videos from youtube. There are lots lots of version of Harlem Shake. They are so funny and I love the 3 firemen one the most.  Btw, the chicken is so funnnnyyy... (youtube it if you don't know what i m talking about)

FYI, from Wikipedia, "The Harlem Shake is an Internet meme that went viral on YouTube in February 2013. The meme is in the form of a video that began being replicated according to a similar concept by many people. The song "Harlem Shake" is by an electronic musician Baauer. "

Hahaz. Then we get excited and said that we should have our own Harlem Shake too. Wohoo!!
Get ready to party in the toilet. OH No~ OH Yes!!!
So here we go, some candid shots of the production.
It's hard to find a great angle that can have all of us fit in the screen.
The tripod leaned on an office chair, tied  the tripod  to the door,
and had the camera laid against the door.

OK. figuring out our own position, not to block others.

Some ideas of our outfit. Sexy gay guy on my left, and zombie ? on the far left.  (LOL!)

Three angels crazy look !

The zombie (with  his pant colors that look likes he's not wearing trousers. )

See whr the mee is......... .................
Here comes the meeeee.... hahahahaz....
See how kesian he is >.< with wet hair, soapy mee, and mini  hot pants.

So get ready to party in the toilet!  Harlem Shake (Toilet's Party) Watch it and feel free to share and like ^ ^.  I have lots of fun with my lovely friends. Hope you guys enjoy it. TQ for your support.

Shake shake shake ! Hahahaz.

Valentine's Day

Halo. I was talking to dar yesterday morning and I asked "What should I blog about valentines since you are not around?" and he said "study for exam la, got time only blog". True! Cause these few days, I was complaining about not doing well in exams. OK I know I should study but ... (I find lots of excuse and do lots of other stuffs to avoid facing tons of notes.)

Dar posted a card 2 weeks ago, but it is not here yet  >.< . I checked on my mailbox at least 2 times a day. haiz. Why is it taking such a long time? (tell me why......)  So, this is one of the things you got to face in long distance relationship. ( no photos of card t.t)

Ok! It's not easy being in LDR but I think we both did a great job. Hahaz. (bei pai sei) FYI, dar studies in Queensland, Australia and I am studying in the states. It has been a year and half that we are separated apart. I met him for 3 weeks last July and I am meeting him this July!! (excited!)

Although I dream of him suddenly appears on my door, but I kinda get used to face lot of stuffs alone, not having his accompany. In this year, we both grow up a lot in different environments and have different thoughts. But, he always supports, advice, guides and LOVEs ME. I might not know what love is really all about. But, I appreciate this moment and ♥ you.

游子- Chinese New Year Eve

Gong Xi Gong Xi. Facebook is flooded with lots of nice nice reunion photos. (But mostly foods, should have more family photos la, take some let me see!)  I am sure many of us who are studying overseas feel super emo when fb-ING. Hahaz.

So what I did on Chinese New Year Eve (Malaysian time)

1. Volunteer at Mid- Ohio Food bank.

Packing breads to deliver to people in need
我要惜福~
"Our life is most grounded when we are contributing whatever we can at each and every opportunity"- Jing Si Aphorisms

2. Browse through some old photos.

Our reunion dinner- simple but nice ^ ^ I miss them my ah ma, ah gong, and ah pek.
The year of rabbit

See my mummy, ah ma, and ah gu smile so happily :)
Thanks to the great innovation of internet, skype and facebook, I appreciate that I can still keep in touch with them. I miss and love them all.

3. Listen to My fm and One fm for lots of CNY songs. (even on the phone: jz download their app)

4. Try to bake Pineapple Tart but fail :( it tastes ok but i don't have a piping mold (it looks ugly).
But I have lots of fun with others :)

At least I have pineapple jam
My pineapple tart

We have milo drinks (ignore my super sleepy face)

As the old saying goes "每逢佳节倍思亲" which is so so appropriate to what we are feeling. I just can't take my mind out of my family. Since my family is going back to kampung which has no internet connection, I wish them 新年快乐 ahead. And I know my mum is trying hard not to let her tears roll down and keep telling me "mummy sayang 你 har~". With all these, I felt so warm, touched and loved

Lastly, wishing you a happy, healthy, prosperous Chinese new year.

OSU Mirror Lake

Halo. I love to stop by Mirror lake and look at those little ducks and take a few minutes to relax my mind before heading back home. I captured some shots of our school Mirror Lake that turns into an ice lake.

Da lang~ mirror lake

So cute ! Omg~

Seldom see them out during this cold weather.
Little ducks grow up each and every day.

They are standing on the lake!
ice lake- do you dare walking on it?

The pathway

I walk through this pathway almost 3 times a week to classes. I love walking to class most of the time although I dislike it when it's raining or it's super duper cold. I enjoy the scenery and the people surrounding  P.S. it burns fats too. hehe

CNY Peanut Cookies

Halo. I decided to bake Peanut Cookies (花生饼) for CNY and luckily I found peanut meal (花生粉) from Crestview Asian Market which costs USD 2.69/ packet.  It might be a little pricey but having peanut meal, save my time and efforts. If you can't find any peanut meal from any stores. Try the traditional way of making it. So, I follow the recipe of hong kitchen and it turns out great ! My first attempt of making peanut cookies is a success. Yippy!

I make some little changes and here's my recipe.

Ingredients and steps

500g All purpose Flour500g Peanut meals

250g  powdered sugar1 tsp Salt
(Mix them evenly.)

Aprox 330g ( 1 and 1/2 cup) Canola Oil

Slowly add Canola oil into the dry mix until it turns into a dough. (Agak- agak)
2 egg yolks ( to brush on top of the cookie)

Hints:
Remember to add some oil onto the baking pan and also preheat the oven. (340 F)
Bake the cookies at 340 F for 10 minutes. 345 F for 5 minutes.
Let the cookies cool down. It will turns a bit darker in color.
If you want to make more, the proportion of all purpose flour : peanut meals is 1:1 and the powdered sugar is half of the all purpose flour.

Dough (if you are using peanut oil, I supposed the color of the dough will be a bit darker)
Peanut Cookies

Give it a try. ^ ^

Halo, exams are around the corner. But I am so addicted to browse through Amazon and Ebay. They have toooo many things to look at. Just Look at, cause I eventually din't buy any. Hehe. I just can't resist to google rilakkuma, they makes me smile ^ ^ And I found something informative from a Rilakkuma fan Marry. You might like to know how to differentiate between genuine and fake. Make sure you are not lied by any seller.

Check on yours :)

I did check on mine and I am glad that the first Rilakkuma I get from my family and dar is all the way from Japan. I got it as a gift 3 years back. Let's take a look at my collection. ^ ^

Mine mine (from left : water tumbler, camera pouch, comb, pens, mixed candy, keychain, snacks, pencil pouch)

FYI, it costs only $1.99 USD.  I feel damn worth it cause it brightens up my day and I have more stickers to share with my family and friends. May be you would like to get it too.
